I went to an event held by YMCA that looked to highlight the importance of youth services and the significant changes in local authority expenditure on youth services over the last decade. I was able to find out about the real-term cuts to Coventry youth services – which correlates to the concerns raised by residents that there aren’t enough safe environments for their children to hang out in after school.
I look forward to seeing Labour’s implementation of the National Youth Strategy for England. This will prioritise delivering better coordinated youth services and policy at a local, regional and national level.
Last week, the Government launched its national listening exercise to let young people have their say on support services, facilities and opportunities they need outside the school gates. The Government ran a survey in partnership with the #iWill Movement and My Life My Say charity, for those between 10-21 years old, or up to 25 years old with SEND to have a say on shaping the National Youth Strategy.
