Grapevine Funding

Issue
Funding for local Charity

Issue Type
Local

Date

Earlier this month I wrote to the Council to urge them to reconsider budget proposals which would cut funding for Grapevine, a local charity in Coventry, which is situated in my constituency.

In my letter, I highlighted that Grapevine provides support and essential services for the most vulnerable people in our city. Every year in Coventry, the charity’s Help and Connect service aids around 80 people living with autism and/or learning disabilities to gain connections, get paid work and prepare for new opportunities.

I noted that these services are preventative and help to stop vulnerable individuals from falling into crisis. I expressed my concern that should funding to this charity be reduced, these people will inevitably turn to social services support, which would in turn place an additional strain on the council’s services.

I was therefore very glad to hear last week that Coventry City Council have decided to continue funding for the charity. I understand that the council faces difficult financial decisions at the moment, and I am therefore grateful they chose to explore alternative solutions that will ensure that these essential services remain in place.

Finally, I want to thank everyone who signed Grapevine’s petition to the Council. You demonstrated the strength of public support for this important charity.
