Today I attended Pancreatic Cancer UK’s event in parliament which focused on tackling the UK’s Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT) shortages.
PERT plays an integral role in helping people with pancreatic cancer to properly digest their food, maintain a healthy weight and be well enough to have treatment, including life-saving surgery.
More than 61,000 people across the UK rely on PERT, without which, they can become malnourished and starve to death. For those where treatment is no longer an option, PERT can make the final months much more comfortable.
It’s really important that we deal with these shortages in order to resolve the worsening crisis and prevent future shortages.
