Following on from a coffee afternoon at Coundon Social Club, I met with Allesley and Coundon Wedge Conservation Society to discuss their concerns about the scale of the Phase 2 of the Coundon Cycleway. In order to best understand this, we also visited the Wedge to walk through the planned route. This would have involved the removal of trees and hedgerows, and the installation of lighting and other infrastructure that could have disturbed the Wedge’s natural environment, rural character, and wildlife.
Whilst there, we looked at possible alternative routes for the Cycleway that don’t cut across the centre of the Wedge, as I understand that there is a real need for our local green spaces to be more accessible for everyone.
I have organised a meeting with the Parks Team at the Council to discuss how we can make it easier for people with mobility issues to enjoy Coundon Wedge. If you want to let me know how you feel accessibility to the Wedge could be improved – please complete this form!
