It was a joy to visit John Shelton Primary School last month and meet their brilliant parliamentary team — a group of young leaders who are already making a difference in their school community. Their confidence, curiosity, and commitment to representing their peers were truly inspiring.
I was especially impressed by how the school encourages pupils to think about their futures from an early age. From discussions about road safety to sharing their hopes and dreams, these students showed just how thoughtful and engaged young people can be when given the space to lead.
Schools like John Shelton are doing vital work by helping children develop their voice, build leadership skills, and understand the value of civic participation. It’s clear that these pupils aren’t just learning — they’re shaping the culture of their school and thinking ahead to the kind of world they want to build.
Thank you to the staff and students for such a warm welcome. I left feeling hopeful and proud of the next generation of changemakers growing up right here in Coventry.
