I was honoured to attend the VJ Day parade in Coventry on Friday, standing alongside Cllr Angela Hopkins, Cllr Bea Christopher, and Cllr Pervez Akhtar to pay tribute to those who served in the Far East during the Second World War. The event was a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who helped bring the war to a close — and of the enduring importance of remembrance.
Victory over Japan Day marks the end of the war in the Pacific and honours the men and women who fought under incredibly challenging conditions. In Coventry — a city deeply shaped by its wartime history — the parade held special significance, reinforcing our shared commitment to peace and reconciliation.
It was humbling to join veterans, community leaders, and residents in reflection. Their stories and service must never be forgotten, and their legacy continues to inspire our work toward a more peaceful future.
Thank you to the organisers and all who attended for creating such a meaningful space to remember, honour, and reflect.
