I recently joined Vanny Radio, a community-led station in Foleshill, for a brilliant conversation with young people about the future of Coventry. Vanny Radio is far more than a broadcaster — it’s a hub for empowerment, training, and dialogue, offering hands-on experience in radio engineering, podcast production, and presenting. Young people gain confidence, media skills, and a platform to share their voices.
During our segment, we explored the issues that matter most to Coventry’s youth. We talked about access to health services, the need to improve mental health provision, and how to build trust between communities and neighbourhood policing teams. We also discussed youth employment, the importance of creating pathways into meaningful work, and celebrated what makes Coventry unique — from its cultural diversity to its rich history of activism.
Vanny Radio’s work is a shining example of how grassroots organisations can equip young people with the tools to lead, express themselves, and shape their communities. Their programmes are open to young people aged 7–25 and include training in broadcasting, sound engineering, event management, and more.
A huge thank you to the team at Vanny Radio and to the young people who took part — your insights and energy are helping to shape a better Coventry.
