Over the weekend, many areas in the West Midlands have been badly affected by flooding. Yesterday was a difficult day for many with flooded roads affecting their ability to travel, and flooded homes causing deep distress. My thoughts are with all those affected and I would like to thank the first responders who have been working hard to keep our communities safe.
I have been in touch with Coventry City Council to understand what measures are being taken in order to help those who have been worst affected. They have had 12 roads reported to them and they have already cleared them all. The council also recently completed a review of the city’s gullies – 87% are completely clear and the remaining require further treatment (however these were unrelated to the recent flooding, which was caused by heavy rain causing the local rivers to overflow).
In the meantime, if you have been affected by the flooding, the following pages contain emergency contact details and advice for flood protection.
