What a fantastic Super Sunday at Barkers Butts RFC! 🏉
It was wonderful to visit the club, meet the incredible volunteers, coaches, and players, and see first-hand the amazing work being done to grow grassroots rugby in our community. Local clubs like Barkers Butts are at the heart of sport in Coventry — helping young people build confidence, teamwork, and lifelong friendships, both on and off the pitch.
A real highlight of the day was meeting Jade Shekells, fresh from her phenomenal success with the Red Roses, England’s women’s rugby team. Her passion for the game and encouragement to young players were truly inspiring, showing just how powerful sport can be in motivating the next generation.
And of course — huge congratulations to the Red Roses, newly crowned Rugby World Cup champions!
Their incredible performance from start to finish was nothing short of dominant, showcasing not just world-class talent, but the determination, teamwork, and spirit that define women’s rugby.
Their victory has inspired thousands of young girls and boys to get involved in the sport, and has brought new attention to the women’s game — proving to the world just how powerful, exciting, and unifying it can be.
Days like this remind us how sport connects communities, creates opportunities, and inspires pride in what we can achieve together. A massive thank you to everyone at Barkers Butts RFC for the warm welcome and for everything you do to keep grassroots rugby thriving in Coventry.
